Infant Car Seat Cover Pattern

Hi All!
I've received an uncommonly amount of emails regarding the printing process of the infant car seat cover pattern, so I will discuss them here for a bit, then to the drawing board to see if I can come up with why this is all of the suddenly happening, but here are the most common issues:

"My pattern printed size is not the same as what you have written down in the instructions page" The most common issue when this happens is the printer settings, because there is such a wide-range of programs, systems and printers, I cannot go over them with you step by step, but what I can tell you is to check your printer settings, they should be "true size" and not adjusted in any shape or form, sometimes the print defaults into "scale to fit media" and this will steal a little bit off the printed size vs the size it should print.
"It printed about 1" smaller than what your specifications say" this normally happens when the printing is set as mentioned above {"scale to fit media"}. The good news is that the pattern is designed as a "wrap around" and it already does have about 1" you can "play with". I tried to give you some wiggle room there. So, if this happens, all you have to do is make sure the harness slots are aligned with the car seat and not off because of the printing size. To do this you can just compare it with your original cover or the car seat itself.
"One of the pieces is printing out smaller than the rest" this is a totally new one for me, but I've noticed a trend of this happening especially in one particular piece, if this happens, just compare what your measurements should be and adjust the part to those measurements, this picture was sent by a customer, so thank you all for your support and willingness to provide images!
"Will this cover fit the Graco SafeSeat and other variations of the Snugride like the 32?" The short answer to this question is yes, BUT, with some adjustments, for example, the harness slots, will absolutely NOT match, you will need to mark them yourself, and the canopy is slightly larger, I will send you instructions on how to do this wen you purchase the pattern and let me know you need it for the above covers.
"Do you ever re-send the files for free?" If you lose your files for one reason or another, I will send you one replacement set of files, if you lose those, then you need to re-order them.
"Are these covers an exact copy of the original covers?" No, these are covers designed and elaborated by me.
"How hard is it to make my own cover? Do I need to be an experienced sewer?" They are not easy too make, they are time-consuming and these projects are designed for experiences seamstresses, if you do not know how to sew, these instructions will be very much complicated for you.

Hand Tags for everything!

Hi all!
I wanted to share with you these super-adorable hand tags I prepared for Mom's latest craft show, they are pretty simple to make, and if you sell hand-made items, or have a party coming up, this is a super cute idea!
I thought this would give my Mom's items a more "hand-made" feel and they where a real hit, I think that the way you present your items, will make or break a deal, they will also attract customers towards your items!

In addition, these are also great for gifts, birthday or bridal party favors and whatever your heart desires, I ordered some fabric from an etsy seller once, and she had packed the fabric with tissue paper, then she used a stripe of scrap-booking card stock, wrapped it around the wrapped piece of fabric, and glued a tag like this over it with a button, THE CUTEST fabric presentation EVER!

Anyhoo, things you will need:

Scrap booking card-stock.
Printing card-stock.
Hot Glue
Ribbon
Hole puncher
Computer/printer OR stamps {whatever you would like to use for your top layer}.
I splurged a little bit {not just for this project, this little machine is awesome} and bought a SLICE machine, ahh, I just love it! And I don't scrapbook, but it says on the box that it will also cut fabric, so, I'm definitely going to give it a shot as soon as I have the time! lol If you don't have a SLICE, you can also purchase a Puncher, Fiskars has a whole collection of hole punchers with several designs, one of them is a very similar scalloped square to this one.

-Select the card stock you would like to use, and cut it with your SLICE or your Hole puncher, on this particular tags I used the Basic card on my SLICE and cut a ton of these squares, these particular ones are 2.5" but they go up to 4".

-After cutting those, I printed Mom's logo into card stock, and punched the logos out with a Fiskars shaped puncher. I found this to be a lot easier than using the SLICE on already printed paper because I can control where the hole is being cut much better {might be my inexperience too, you should try anyway!}

-So, now I end up with the same amount of both shapes cut up. I take my hot glue gun, and start gluing, I used the hot glue because it's less messy, and it will dry super fast {plus, it gave them a little bit of a 3D effect I sort of liked}.
-In this particular tags, I used the small hole puncher and punched 2 holes on the top of each tag, you can also punch 1, larger.

-After this, you're able to play with the ribbon, you can tie with a knot, or a bow over the top until you get the look you want! I used 2 small holes on these because 1. I could not find my regular hole puncher until I was done with them {the story of my life!} and 2. this made making a bow over the top easier, so, these are very flexible!! lol

I also wanted to share with you that my Cuddly Monkeys fabric, did not make the semi-finals on the contest {sniff sniff} but you should still check out the semi finals and vote, these are GREAT designs, and I don't want to get too technical, but be sure to ask the site on the right hand side to show you what the fabric would look like in one yard, and make sure it doesn't look funky, some of the semi-final designs have this issue, not sure what happened there! LOL

Cuddly Monkeys...

My girls, Natalie and Claire, enjoying the Florida weather

June 20th?? That was the last time I posted on my blog?? Whoa, where did time go? Let me explain, as you probably know, I'm a Navy wife, well, I'm actually a soon-to-be-ex-navy wife! no, I'm not leaving my super-awesome husband, he's finally leaving the Navy {and can I do a happy dance??}, in addition to this, I also moved temporarily to Florida {with my parents, Grandma and 8 dogs}, long story! But I do have yet another move coming up, we don't know where, depends on where Paul gets a job {Nuke, not too many places out there for him} oh and did I mention I had to leave everything in storage, move some things to Paul's temporary room, moved my sister's things out of her room {in FL, she moved out}, move my things in, and now are preparing to go to VA to move Paul's things OUT of the room ... if I never see a moving box again after this ordeal, I'll be a happy camper ... but I'm sure I will.
And I'm also sure I made your head spin {and this was the extremely short version of the story} pretty much, "hectic" seems like a very very SMALL word to describe what life has been the past few months!
I haven't been sewing much these days, don't have the time, or my good machines {in storage!} so, I am very sorry for the non-existent posts!

However, I do have some news, and some new things to show you, so, here's the fin part:
First things first, I follow Patty Young's blog {I actually used to be one of her customers "back in the day" when she used to make the prettiest kid's clothes, she's an awesome designer!} and I learned about this place called SpoonFlower, which is a website, where you can design your own fabric, you can make it available for sale, people purchase it, and you get a cut from the sale. I've been doodling {a LOT} for this website, and things have been selling pretty OK I might say! You can check out my designs here. Oh and let me just add, you will find A M A Z I N G designers on this website, if you're a sewing fanatic, graphic designer, artist or plain and simple curious, you need to check it out!!

My newest designs, are actually meant for a design contest {hosted by Michael Miller, which is a fabric company that I use a LOT for our covers like Groovy Guitars, Damask, Swirls, Carnival Bloom and a TON more} so, when the opportunity came to design something for baby boys for this contest, I was super excited, this would be right up my alley with my baby bedding and baby gear items history! I was totally unsure on what to draw, submit, etc. So, with the help of my friends from OKID, I went with Monkeys! You can look at the entire collection here. But here they are too!

The Art of Sewing

I've been "crafting" for as long as I can remember, Mom has always been one to encourage the "DIY" attitude and I think it's always something that pays off, weather it's a small project you are working on or something larger than life, whenever you create something yourself, you get the sense of accomplishment that I think every person needs to have one way or another.
Being a Military wife, I've grown accustomed to working with what I get, weather it's a small room at my parents for a few months while Paul is over seas and all my stuff is on a PODS somewhere, base housing, a rental home, tiny apartment, our own house, well, you get the idea. After all these years having my own business, sometimes I wonder how this has survived in such crazy circumstances, I don't have the ability to rent a studio, I'm temporary everywhere I go! So, from dining rooms, to spare rooms, to breakfast nooks, even walk in closet once, I've sewn everywhere! So, what I'm about to share with you is a particular milestone for me and for Natitys all together, it's not the most important one, and there will be much more significant ones in the near future when hubby separates from the Navy and we can finally settle somewhere, but after all these years, I finally got a HUGE area to work on!
I have officially moved to the downstairs of our current home, I have about 800sf of working space, all for myself! WITH a bathroom! whohoo!
Paul got serious brownie points because this used to be his "man cave", and one day, he said "you know, I think you need more room" and here we are!
Anyway, long story short, this is not my "Dream sewing room" and it is not a permanent set up as we will me moving sometime next year, but, this is an awesome milestone for now!
I thought I'd share with you so you can see where your goodies come from:

Also, since I mentioned the "DIY" attitude, I know a lot of you have been asking if I offer patterns of the items we sell, the answer was no, but we are now changing that. After a few months on trial on etsy, I'm confident that the patterns are going to be a great item to have and offer at Natitys, so, as of this month, Natitys is now offering PDF Downloadable patterns! Spring is finally here!

And can I say YAY! I was SO over the cold weather! Being from the Caribbean, I am definitely not used to the cold {and really, I don't care to be lol}. So now that it' WARM {yay again} we get to leave the house, play, walk, shop and have fun! That's what's inspiring all the new items! Despite the fact that both my kids were home with a cold, it was raining cats and dogs outside and hubby was out all day at medical appointments for his ankle, I was able to complete all the orders I had in my plate today! OK, so I've been drooling around for ages over the Blythe dolls, and I know I'm just one of thousands! I asked Santa for one this year, we will see if I've been naughty or nice on the 25th LOL. Anyway, Therese and I were brainstorming the other day, we have all these plans for our new dolls, and, basically to please me, she made these gorgeous Blythe Doll inspired faces. These dolls are of course hand crafted and are not Blythe dolls, they are inspired by the adorable collector Blythe doll. They feature lots of details including removable skirts and shoes, you will love these dolls! I'm having a hard time parting from them as it is, because these are ready-made dolls, they are ready to ship, so if you order before the 17th {in the US} you can probably get them on time for the Holidays. Did you know that I belong to a fabulous Kid Designer group called OKID? Let me start from the beginning, OKID has been around for years, probably longer than I've been in business, they started out as a group of designers who used to sell their art and boutique children's items on ebay, and from there it evolved into a household name for boutique children's items.
Over the years the group has gone through several changes, some artists have retired, some have gone their own way and some new ones have joined. Currently, all the OKID designers can be found on etsy, and everyone has their own website where they do the majority of their business.
Our group is based on a beautiful friendship of women who make a living doing what they love. We have all been there for each other and have endured anything and everything that a true friendship can endure.

With the economy the way it is, it's very important you know where your money is going to, personally, I prefer to put my gift giving budget into hand crafted and local shops vs the big chains, I figure a local shop or an individual can definitely use the money more than the big box stores can. I've come across a lot of wonderful finds and I wanted to share them with you so I will be doing one at a time as I can from now till the Holidays, to give you ideas, some people are hard to shop for! lol

Anyway, I wanted to start of with ornaments, these are made by my friend MaryAnna from Doodle Pad Designs, my daughter, Natalie, won an ornament a few weeks ago when she participated in a giveaway on her Facebook page, so I took advantage and bought one for Claire too so she could mail them together along with my business stickers I also bought from her. Isn't it funny how immediately after Halloween all the Holiday stuff is out? Our Gift shop is officially open! I know we are about one week late! lol but there you will find quick ships, affordable and adorable items for Baby, Girls, Boys, Tweens and even some Moms, so please go and take a peak! We have lots of items that are available for personalization, to make that gift even more special! Where have you been?

**Sight** where did I go, you ask? I have been nowhere, I have been here, working, on many, many things. October was a bit of a crazy month for us, you see, Claire's birthday is on the 30th, and we always make a Halloween birthday party, maybe one day she will get tired of it like I've heard people say, but so far, this is what she wants. This meant that not only did I have to organize a party here, I also had to make costumes for the girls. Natalie went through several ideas, this was extremely frustrating, from Punky Brewster {I let her watch the episodes on YouTube, along with other oldies like Alf, Rainbow Brite and Jem} to Coraline, to Silvermist, from the Tinkerbell movie. This last one, she kept. Claire on the other hand, was very simple, she said she wanted to be a witch from day one, and this is what she stuck with, she was SO excited to be a witch. If you're interested, I'll add a few links at the end with info on where I got all the "ingredients" for their outfits. I'll tell you right now, Etsy was my number one source. So, we had the party, over 30 kids came, then trick or treat, well, you get the idea, my whole month revolved around this one day, so, that's where I've been :) Here is a cute picture of the two cuties:

Hi everyone! After a desperately needed vacation, I am happy to say we are back! Our shop is no open as usual and you can come in and get your goodies :)
We had a great time in our vacation, we went to Florida to my Parent's house, did the Disney thing, shopping and the best part, we celebrated Natalie's 8th Birthday Party there! I have some ideas to share with you!
Natalie is REALLY into books, one of her favorite collections is The English Roses by Madonna. She requested her Birthday party to be themed by the books. I looked online, almost restlessly for ideas, favors, anything that was Th English Roses related, and, not to under credit the retailers, but the only things I found were a hand full of over-priced clothes.
So, I had to get a bit creative, maybe not make the party about the characters per say, but about the roses and the colors. There were many things I wish I had more time to work on and made differently, but the party turned out gorgeous.
For example, I'm lucky enough to have Cake Makers in my family {MY Mom, and my Aunt} and together they made the beautiful cake, with polka dots and a bow. To make it fit better with the theme, I used this BEYOND Gorgeous Birthday Bird I bought from The Sugar Elf {talk about amazing, this birde is just amazing} and I also added some fabric mini roses I bought at the craft store, just placed them around the cake plate. We also had Cupcakes that were decorated in pink and green, it tied the whole thing together and it looked great.
The Pinata we bought from the local Party Store, it was an IceCream cone, they also have pinatas that you can decorate yourselves, if I had the time {I was totally out of time}, I would have used one of those and painted a rose to stick to the portion where you glue in your own image.
Do you see the breth-taking Gazebo? That's the gazebo my Dad built with very little help in his back yard, he totally designed it. built it, painted it... it is AMAZING, well, In addition to balloons, I bought some innexpensive lanterns in pastel colors, you can get them at your local box store or your local party store. You can add flare to them with ribbon on the top or you can get really creative and glue flowers or applique to them! I also found, inexpensive as well, honeycomb decorations, the ones I got where white balls, also can be decorated with ribbon.
Goodie bags were just the plain, clear ones you buy anywhere, and this is why, I have spent SO much money on goodie bags before, I even hand made and had sewn some felt ones one year {they are the reason the words "Goodie Bags" are no longer allowed in my house} and they always end up in the trash, so, what's the point? Anyways, clear bags, lots of candy, some fake jewelry and innexpnsive toys, and they were all happy.
For the prizes {when the kids play pin the tail on the donkey... or pin th dot on the ladybug in our case, another party store find} we gave the boys some really cool wallets my Mom makes and sells at her shop, and for the girls, I ordered from my good friend Tammy at XOXOTOVA these gorgeous Fall Doll Clips I had a horrible time giving away because I wanted to keep them all {LOL}.
And for the girl's outfits, they wanted to wear T-shirts and jeans, so I purchased white T-shirts from the box store, and hand painted them myself, after painting them, we "bedazzled" them as well, turned out pretty cool. And Tammy made {exclusively for my girls, but I know if you ask her, she will sell you some} the beautiful hair bands, they fit perfectly with the theme and the outfits!

CPSIA Awareness goes to Hollywood!

We are really exited to share with you the following information:

Oviedo, FL (June 2009) - Style Cafe Moms, an online leader in celebrity gifting, announces the presentation of a CPSIA Awareness Basket to Angelina Jolie, Tori Spelling and Julia Roberts.

Style Café Moms has put together these baskets with help from our clients, most of whom are work at home moms and all of whom will be affected by the CPSIA Law. This law, although originated to protect our children, is creating financial devastation (and even bankruptcy) to businesses whose products pose no threat to children and never have. The law is written very poorly. It’s too vague, too broad, and too retroactive-so come 2/10 it is unlawful for retailers to have inventory on their shelves that they can’t provide certificates for, causing them thousands of dollars in lost inventory that the day before was legal to sell (T-shirts, onesies, hairclips, socks, baby slings, etc.) Everything you can think of that you and your children enjoy, potentially will no longer be available, unless each product is lead tested by a third party lab approved by CPSC. Not such a big dea l you think, each test is an excess of $300+. And the test must be done for every production run, color variation, and repeated again on the same product when produced again costing businesses thousands of dollars, when the product may only take them a few hundred dollars a year itself. Fortunately this law has been stayed for one year and does not pose an immediate threat to these businesses but in a year we are hoping that a few celebrities can lend their voice or even just a letter to let congress know that such a law would put many work at home mothers out of business and stop the development of great products such as the ones included in this gift basket. We do hope you review the basket contents and would love to hear from you regarding any feedback you may have about the enclosed products. We strongly support the work at home mom community & we feel their products should be recognized to encourage their growth.

Summer News and Sale!

Hi all! I hope everyone is having a great summer vacation! So far, I have been really busy, unfortunately, the kids, are bored out of their minds. We had all these plans for the summer that have now gone down the drain since my husband's injury. So, since going out of town is probably out of the question {we'll know a bit more once his cast comes off next month but so far, we stay put} we decided to "redo" Natalie's room, and for Claire, since she just got a new room makeover a few months ago, we will be working on school stuff. Natalie went back and fourth on what kind of decor she wanted, this was very painful. So, the new plan, is to decorate the room with everything she likes, "Natalie's world" per say {lol} and we are starting with her bedding, after looking at about 50 bedding sets online {I know, I know, what am I doing looking at that stuff online if I can make it for her, read the rest of the story} she decides she wants ME to make her one, with "cool fabrics" ... well, after looking at HUNDREDS of "cool fabrics", we decided to go with a quilt, nothing very fancy, just a regular patchwork quilt with cute fabrics. OK, went through my fabrics, found quite a few we could use, narrowed it down to around 11 prints ... started cutting, and then it hit me, Natalie can sew straight lines! So, she did, I had her put together the pieces in rows, and then I sewed all the rows together... over 200 pieces of fabrics and about 4 hours later, we had the top of her quilt! Tomorrow, after all my "work projects" we will be working on the batting and the backing. I'm so proud of her, I think this is going to be a great and inexpensive way for us to spend our time this summer, at least for a few weeks! lol

Happy Father's Day!

Well, until I decided to actually write and put in words my thoughts on Father's Day, I had not realized how incredibly fortunate I have been. I know a lot of people do think they have the best Dad in the whole world, I'm one of them. There's many reasons why so many of us believe this, mine is really simple, love.
My Dad, is truly one of the most fascinating people I have ever met, and this is not just because he's my Dad, and you'll see why. He was born in the 40's, just one of 2 children, they lived in a very rural area in Puerto Rico. It seemed he had it laid all his life laid out to what he wanted it to be, he married to his childhood sweetheart and he was serving in the Army until something very unexpected happened, his wife sadly and suddenly passed away from a very rare and undetected disease. This was just one of a series of events that taught him to live life at it's fullest, and this is exactly what he did, aside from the Army, he also worked in a bank, ran the first movie theater in our town, worked in cruises, moved to a tour guide in the Caribbean Islands, started working in hotels, and this is where he met my Mom, fell in love, married, had us kids and took us all along for the ride. One thing that has always impressed me about my Dad, is really the amount of dreams he has reached, he has done more than what a normal person, in one lifetime can accomplish, really!
We grew up moving almost every year from country to country, in hotels all over the place, the Hotel was our home, the staff was our family. {We have "cousins" all over the world}. We grew up very differently from most people, and from most our "blood" family, we didn't get to share much with our real cousins, aunts and uncles. But somehow, he made it all work, I think this is the reason why we are so tight as a family now.
My Dad has taught me many, many things, of course, but if I could narrow, I will always cherish and hope I can teach my own kids is, life is truly amazing if you let it be, you should always follow your dreams, even if your dreams take you thousands of miles away from your comfort zone, keep an open mind and an open heart to things that may come your way, and always remember, we are all loaned on this world, at any moment, you or your loved ones might not be here anymore, so we should never put yourself in the position of regret.
On this day, I say"I love you, Daddy" a little sweeter than ever, I think about him {wishing I could be closer to go to that BBQ he's probably preparing in his new Gazebo}, think about my Paul, who's a little bit like him {they share the same birthday, how about that? Happy Father's Day, honey}.
And Lastly, I'd like to send a huge hug to my dear friend Therese, who lost her father recently, I'm thinking of you and your family, I know your Dad is in your heart every day and especially today.

Hi all! First off, let me just wish you a very happy Memorial Day {even though a lot you will get this one day late!} We will spend the day just hanging out as my hubby Paul is stuck resting his ankle.

Family Drama

Hi all! I don't know how much you know about me and Natitys but I thought I'd give you a little background to update you on a few things.

I'm a Navy wife, my hubby, Paul, has been int he Navy for 10 years now, our families are primarily in Orlando, FL, and we are stationed in Virginia at this moment, my husband is a Nuclear Reactor Tech {AKA NUKE} and has a supervisory position in his command.

Anyway, the reason I tell you this, is because his birthday was on the 13th, and it being the middle of the week and all, we decided to wait until Friday to celebrate his 30th birthday. Which, we did, but close to the end of the night, he was going down one step in our deck and stepped incorrectly, rolled over and fell ... it was funny at first, until he said he thought he broke his ankle, the fall was so small and so silly, I was having a hard time believing him, but we did immediately discover he had in fact broken his ankle.

I rushed him to the Hospital, some friends staid with the girls here at home, and at the Hospital he was told it was broken and had to be transferred to the Navy Hospital, 8 hrs later, we were back home from a very long night. He is going to need surgery which is scheduled for this week, and he will also need a lot of medical attention {well, maybe not a "LOT" but frequent Doctor's visits and then, physical therapy etc} so, where I'm getting at, is that it might take me a bit longer to get back to emails, to post things and to complete some projects.

I'm very thankful that his injury was here at home, and although serious, it's common and he will get better, I know he does not share the same luck with a lot of other Military members and I feel extremely lucky he's here and I can take care of him vs the line of fire, in a deployment or any other scenario.

Blogging is Contagious

So, I don't blog a whole lot, I normally either sit here and let you know about new items or special offers, or take a few minutes to write something nice from the heart about a specific Holiday. Honestly, finding the time to "blog" can be a real hassle, I'm sure you know this.

Anyhow, I guess blogging can also be contagious, Natalie, my 7yr old, decided a long time ago that she wants to be many things when she grows up, you know, the usual: veterinarian, pop star ... but there are two new ones, that I think have been in development since k5, she is absolutely utterly in love with books, she prefers to snuggle on her bed with a good book before watching any TV show or movie. Well, she has decided to add a couple of things to her "grow up plans" and one of them is, being a librarian, so she can be close and have access to all the books in the world, and the other one is being a writer, she actually writes "books" {I buy her little notebooks and she writes stories with illustrations and everything in them}. So, I guess because she has seen me blog every now and then, now she has decided to blog herself. She started her own little blog, called Artsie's Adventures, so far, she has 6 readers {including myself, of course} so far, which is a lot more than I had in the same amount of time! She will be scanning some or her art and stories and feature them in her blog "for the world to see" especially this summer that she will have more time so, I invite you to join her, if you have the time, I'm sure your kids will also enjoy some of the funny stories and art work. All in a clean, fun and safe mode, of course!

"Mommy"... we use this name so much in our lives that we tend to forget the real meaning of this very casual, simple word. Where to start? I'm sure everyone has a very different view on what their mother means to them. In my case, it really took the experience of being a mother myself to understand my own Mom. When I was younger, Mom was just that... Mom. The person who took care of me, bought me stuff, and the one I had to ask for permission to. Then, as the teenage years kicked in, you can add "arch enemy" to the list. When I became an adult, Mom was the same, except I didn't have to ask for permission to anymore. Don't get me wrong, the love for my Mom was and has always been there, I think that the sympathy was not... yes, that's what it was.

When I became pregnant for the first time, I found myself calling my Mom almost on a daily basis, she was like my "Mayo Clinic Book" ... she always had the answer to everything, I didn't know that! how awesome was that? When Natalie came to this world for the first time, it was like a light bulb that suddenly turned on, it was all crystal clear to me now! THAT's what a Mother is! Aha!!

For starters, OUCH, giving birth, really DOES hurt ... no, not "I imagine it hurts" or "it's like stretching your lower lip and putting it over your head pain" type of way... who can imagine that anyways? {has anyone ever done that? really? } NOOO, this was "oh my GOSH, I'm going to die if this does not stop right now" sort of pain. And die not as in in these shoes don't match my outfit sort of way, but as NO LONGER LIVING sort of way!! And even if you had an epidural {which I did, only took on my right leg, long story} the 6 weeks after that are no picnic ... and don't even get me started on a C-Section {had one with Claire, no fun either}.

As if the pain of child birth was not enough, the total and absolute stress of taking care of an infant and being responsible for their LIFE was more than enough to completely, 100% convince me that all these years I've taken my Mother for granted she has absolutely and unconditionally loved me like she has never loved anything else before ... well, with the exception of my siblings of course {but she likes me the bestest, I just know it}.

Today, being the mother of 2, there is no question in my mind that, after all these years, after this entire lifetime and all the ups and downs of childhood and growing up, Mom really was always right! Even when it didn't feel like it to me ... she truly was! Because she has always put my best interest first, in spite of myself, her heart has always been in the right place... and as I prepare myself to experience the headaches of my kid's choices and all the stuff I put her through, that like a boomerang, will come back to me; the person I am today, I can credit to my children {and my husband but don't tell him that, his head will swell} ... and of course, my Mom.

Spring Craft Show Pictures

So, I finally got a chance to download the pics of the Langley Spring Bazaar that we attended this past weekend {May 1st and May 2nd}. We did have loads of fun, met some really great people and overall, had a blast selling and shopping {but shh, don't tell my hubby the shopping part lol}. Because I was lucky enough to have Mom in town {she leaves today sniff sniff} I decided to take more than what I would normally take if it was just me, and once we got there, more good news, our booth was extended about 5 more feet, so, it ended up being a little bit empty! lol.

Hot sellers, were my Mom's new Clutches {bottom right hand side of the pic, will be available in the next few days on our website} the Stroller Liners almost sold out and the Aprons did also great. The Ladies sizes are up, kid's will be by this weekend and they are all at fabulous prices, ready to ship, great for Mother's Day!

Claire and Natalie were my biggest helpers, they gave away flyer's, lollipops, even sold with me! What a lucky gal I was this weekend!

Spring Break Closing Sale

Phew, I've been so busy I still don't have this "set in stone". I have so much going on I don't really know if I will really be able to CLOSE for Spring Break. But so far, that is the plan, I am heading down to FL where most of our families are {all the grand-parents at least}. Most of the fabrics we use are 100% cotton material that passes all the CPSIA guidelines. Minky fabric is 100% Polyester. Cotton fabric is bio-degradable and meets safety standards. However, if you are concerned about the process that takes affect when the fabrics are manufactured, which involves some chemicals, there is now a new option in our designs.

We are working very hard to provide you with a complete collection of unique and beautiful Organic and ECO Friendly materials.

We do have an adorable collection of new fabrics that are great for the ECO Friendly parent. We have also added a selection for cotton batting on your design, and then you will end up with a more natural product! Choose Custom Infant Car Seat Covers, Nursing Pillow Covers, Toddler Car Seat Cover, Toddler Car Seat SlipCovers or Shopping Cart Covers!

It's NEVER "OK" to imitate...

An artist, by definition, is a person that creates and practices art. The word “create”, is defined as the act of producing or defining existence. There are many, many ways to determine whether someone is an artist, it has to do with your personal point of view, with how much you are educated in the subject, or simply how much you like what you are looking at. You can label someone an “artist” by simply looking at something they made, and liking it.

Often, artists use things to become inspired, it can be something as simple as a feather falling to the ground, dancing with the air… or it can be another piece of art made by another artist; this last example, brings me to another word, “copying”. Copying, by definition, is an imitation or reproduction of something already created… and this is the subject I would like to address today.

Where do you think we can draw the line between “inspiration” and “imitation”? One can only assume that common sense will always prevail when it comes to this subject. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. All over the Internet, all over the world, there are thousands of imitators; we see them every single day. As an objective person, I would assume that an artist is protected by copyright law, wouldn’t you? However, copyright law is very vague, it is not written to protect someone’s work, but to have channels to convince whoever is taking your case that you work is being copied… a very unfortunate situation of you asked me.

I was raised being taught what was right from wrong, it’s called Morals, sometimes I forget that not everyone was raised this way, not everyone has the same values to know the difference or the same self respect to follow their artistic instincts and create something unique and personal. These people are desperate to call for attention, to be acknowledged as an Artist, and they go through great lengths to try to get that very privileged title, some of these acts are copying or imitating someone else’s work.

These desires prevent them from seeing the “big picture”, the reality is that, bottom line, they are simply copying someone’s work, they are nothing but a creatively challenged marketing expert. They assume that people don’t notice… but people do notice, people do talk, people do KNOW... and this will not be tolerated.

The fact of the matter is, that imitating someone else’s work is not only unprofessional, and a tragedy to their portfolio and reputation, but it is also stealing. They are stealing someone else’s ideas and claiming them as their own for acknowledgment and money.

It takes a very long time for a true artist to come up with a personal, unique design, a lot of things to take in consideration, think of it as a great gourmet recipe from scratch versus something that comes from the freezer isle in the supermarket. This is the comparison between both.

This piece, is intended to explain and help visualize to you, the customer, and you as well, the freezer isle in the supermarket copier, that a piece of art, a true piece of art, takes time, love, and a one of a kind mind at a precise moment that captures something amazing and it is placed into a canvas. It cannot be duplicated; it can only be terribly imitated and will never be the same.

What you can walk away from this article is that, if you are a customer, looking for art, please take in consideration how devastating it can be for the entire artistic community when you purchase an unauthorized copy of someone else's work, and for you who claim to be "artists" by using other's work, simply stop, and think to yourself the kind of damage that you are doing to yourself and your fellow real artists, you have the potential to use your talent, don't underestimate yourself, create your own work, you will see better results anyway. MLK Day Celebration and new products...

As you possibly know already, living in this country for me has been opening myself to a new History Book, MLK Day celebration is one of those Holidays that I normally miss talking about on my blog, normally, I'm catching up on orders, have the kids home with the sniffles and it just escapes from me to write something about it. But this year, yes, I am catching up on orders, and both kids have the sniffles, but, here I am, writing you as every week! It really is no surprise why this day is honored, and all the doors this person opened to all Americans really, but I found something peculiar on wikepedia, for intance, did you know that they also observe MLK day in the historic city of Hiroshima, Japan? MLK was not only an American hero, but his civil rights movement touched the hearts of many, many people all over the world.

We are not going to be making a "special sale" this week to celebrate MLK Day per say, but I do have some new items at spectacular and one could say, sale, prices on our Etsy Shop Lollipop Designs. Some of the new items are Baby and Toddler Blankets, made with beautiful, designer cotton fabrics and backed with minky and chenille, just adorable, and the prices are a steal!

Oh my! Happy 2009!! How was your Holiday Vacation? GREAT I hope. I'm going to quickly cross my fingers, close my eyes and say a little wish prayer for you to have an awesome 2009, filled with health, joy and opportunities. We ended up going to GA to my brother's house, boy, it's been such a long time since we are all able to spend the Holidays together, I'm one of 4 siblings, I'm in VA, Mickey, my brother, lives in GA with my Sister in Law, niece and nephew, then my younger brother, Carlos, moved to Chicago this past summer with his wife, and my baby sister who lives in Orlando with my parents. So, we're spread all over the place. It was a surprise for my parents that we would ALL be there, it was so much fun. The best gift of all, really.

Halloween Fun!!

Hi everybody!
Did everybody have a Happy Halloween? We sure did! My hubby had duty {meaning he had to stay in the ship for 24 hours} but one of his friends and his wife kindly invited us to Trick or Treat with them and their daughter, we had a LOT of fun!!

Natalie was Dorothy, and yeah, she IS a fan of the story, and Claire was a Princess... what else would she be? lol. Happy Birthday Claire Giveaway!!!!!

Today is a very special day, today is Clairebear's 5th birthday!!!! I cannot believe it's been 5 years since that faithful day! You're growing up sooo fast my beautiful sweetheart. You are truly a miracle of life, and my proof that there is a higher being watching over for us.

Summer of 2003, we lived in Virginia, our house was literally across the beach, and I was about 7 months pregnant, everything was going as scheduled, when we were notified that Hurricane Isabel was hitting exactly where we lived, Paul, my husband, as he's in the Navy, was given orders to leave with his crew on the ship, whenever there's a hurricane, they normally take the ships out sea, away from docks and such, to prevent harm to everyone, so, off he went, and there I was, all alone, 7 months pregnant, with a 2 year old, 2 dogs and a house that was under mandatory evacuation. My parents would have none of that, my Mom flew in from Florida, I packed all our pictures, important papers, about a week's worth of clothes, and left with the dogs and my Mom.
A few days later, the hurricane came, completely flooded our neighborhood, our home was not destroyed, but it did flood, our downstairs furniture was gone, there was no electricity, there were mold issues, and the only way to get to the house was with a small boat! So, needless to say, Paul and I made the decision of me staying in Orlando at my folks until further notice. It was almost time for Paul's ship, the USS Reagan, to make it's first deployment, he would be out sea for months in very little time, so, taking all these things in consideration, we decided it was going to be best for me to stay in Orlando and have little Claire there.
So, I found a great doctor in Orlando, and went to my first visit ... where they found on my records I was going to have issues having the baby, things that were not disclosed to me by my military butchers ... oh I mean doctors, so, long story short, I had to have a C-Section within a week and a half of moving to Orlando! Had I waited long term for Claire, who was a preemie, it is very possible that I would not be sitting here writing to you this story.

SO, this is why Claire is my miracle, in many ways, she was perfect, the most memorable part of the C-Section for me was when she came out, and, the nurse brought her to my head {as the rest of your body's really covered even from you, and you can't feel a thing} she showed me Claire, who was crying, and said "Here's Momma, sweetie" and I said "Hi baby girl" and Claire stopped crying, like she recognized my voice, how magical!

It really is hard to put into words what this entire ordeal meant to me, but it was definitely a benchmark in my life, my faith was really, truly validated. And for this, and Claire, I'm every day thankful.

To celebrate Claire's birthday, I am going to throw in a Giveaway! This is one of her favorite items on my website, I will give away a Child's size Apron. This past weekend, I was able to introduce to the general public some of my new designs, may of them sold out before I was able to take professional pictures of them so it will be a few days to a couple of weeks before I'm able to offer them here on my website. But I'm so excited about all the new products I wanted to give you all a sneak peak of all the new Natitys Design goodies and Updates!
I've uploaded new onesies {sorry again, had many more but ended up selling them before I was able to take pictures} and there will be many more soon!
And for the Mommies and Girls, there are now new Boutique Aprons available, just a few prints right now, but I'm adding many more, and other styles as well!

If you take a look at the booth, there are several bibs, car seat covers, onesies and Tooth Fairy Pillows. The tooth fairy pillows will be available for sale in about 2 weeks or so, they are made with chenille, minky, whimsy fabrics and will be available for both girls and boys. The price will start at $26.00 each. The actual fairies you see here, come from a vintage fabric I bought years ago, and it is discontinued, so the amount I can sell are limited, they flew off the shelves at the Holiday Bazaar, hopefully you like them as much as the ladies at Langley! :)

There's so many holidays too, Ice Cream day is July 3rd, who knew this? I am SO EXCITED to see all of the Natitys products at the online auction!! I learned that Stephanie is an advocate of Nursing your baby so I know she will be super excited that the Nursing Covers are doing so well!

So far, one of the nursing covers is up at $50.00 {wohoo!!!} that is twice as much as the retail price, you can definitely feel the love. This has been such a great experience for me, I am very proud to be part of it, even if it is in such a small way.

New Christmas Stockings in the shop

Every year, here at home, we have our regular Christmas ornaments, we put up a tree with our lights and decor, the whole house looks very "Christmasy" with the usual colors, green, red, gold etc.
I've always had for the girls a small Christmas tree in their room, one of those you buy at the big box stores for $15.00 or so, and every year we make our own decorations for that tree, it's always very very special, in addition to that, we also put up the Christmas stockings, the ones we use for our fireplace are actually the same ones we've had for years, my husband has had the same stocking all his life, and when we got married, my Mother in Law made sure we all got a stocking with our names on it, so, they are very meaningful to us, and those are the stockings we use in our fireplace.
For the girl's rooms, we normally make special items, I don't know, I think it's partially because we like to spoil the heck out of them, but my excuse is that I like to extend the decoration to the entire house, and, at least for my girls, their rooms are their world, they're the princesses of that far away land ... and for Mommy to come invade with her picked decor is just an insult ... lol, well, maybe not an "insult" but you get what I mean.
So, with people like me in mind, I'm creating what is going to be a pretty long line of Holiday Stockings, made with all the funky fabrics you see throughout my site, they are priced between $20.00 to $25.00 each, a steal for a hand-crafted, boutique quality, gorgeous piece of Holiday Tradition if you asked me!
We are starting to sell these wayy early, this is because, of course, there is always a bit of a wait time to get them out, so we want to be sure you will have plenty of time to order and receive these for the Holidays. I am trying to have most of them ready for shipping, but they are moving quickly so, I want to make sure I let you all know about these with time :)

This is a widely known event within the Indie Designer Community and in the Arizona area, but in case you are not familiar {like I was for a long time} here's the info:

To make a very long, and emotional story short, the Nielsen family we are talking about consist in Stephanie {The Nienie Dialogues}, Christian and their 4 beautiful children {Claire, Jane, Oliver, Nicholas}, on August 16th, Stephanie and Christian were involved in an airplane accident, that resulted in the loss of one life {flight instructor, Mr. Doug Kinneard} and extensive burns to Stephanie and Christian {80 and 30% of their bodies}. At this time, they are both enduring what is going to be a very long journey to recovery. You can read all about their incredible story at About Nie. We have all learned a lot from this family, it is truly amazing how so much people, who have never heard from each other, who had no idea who the Nielsen family were, have come together to help, and create an event like this. It is going to be a lot of fun, a lot of us designers, and sellers from all types of businesses have donated products and services for raffles, silent auctions and online auctions, all proceeds will of course go to the Nielsen family.

We heard about the event from our new friends at Blissful Living, {who, by the way, is probably one of the coolest places on earth!} who are organizing all this. If you are in the Mesa, Arizona area, this is an event you do not want to miss, stop by, have fun, shop, give to a good cause, meet the family and friends, it really promises to be an awesome experience. I'm just sad I cannot attend :( ... but! They will have some of our goodies that will be sold in their auctions and raffles, items will include one Toddler Car Seat Cover, and a few Nursing Covers, we'll see what else we can fit in that box!

If you cannot make it there, you can always donate directly {scroll down and look for the "Donate to NieNie" banner}, or, even more fun, you can shop! The Bliss Fest Auctions are a great place to shop online and if you are a blogger, or a website owner, there is also a perfect goodie for you, Banners by Lyndsay is also offering a GORGEOUS collection of banners {like the one I'm debuting above!! Sooooo beautiful!!} all you have to do to get this deal is donate $20.00 or more to the Etsy fund, then forward her the information, her email address is in her blog.

Although this family does need funds financial help, they also need a lot of prayers, I have to admit that since I read about them, every day, I pray for both Stephanie and Christian are having a good day towards their recovery, for their family to have a smooth day dealing with doctors, media, the extra activities of the children, for their children to be having a sweet, worry less day, and I also pray to be as strong as this family is one day.

So, if you can, join me and others and say a little prayer for them, and take a few moments to read the blogs, to me, it really did a lot of good, life smells sweeter and I'm enjoying my family and my kids even more if that's believable and possible! :)

Holiday Shopping already?

We were out of town for an entire week for my brother in law's wedding down in Florida, and during this week, while shopping around for wedding gifts, I noticed how much Holiday stuff there's out already, I've been looking online a lot and it looks like a lot of us have started adding Holiday items as well. I think that because economy is not so great, it's probably a good idea to start your holiday shopping early this year. I personally made a promise to myself and decided I was going to give as much handmade as possible, not from me, but from fellow designers and boutiques, I think it's an awesome way to help support each other, so, today, shopping around, I found that I'm definitely not the only one who had this idea {haha!} and I found out that there is this whole online directory being cooked with Mom-preteurs websites for the Holidays! Well, of course I added Natitys to the list, should be up any minute tonight {thanks Laurie!} and I thouht I'd share with you the site, so you could do a little bit of early Holiday shopping yourself: Tip Junkie Shop-athon

I'm also working on some new Holiday items, that will be introduced in the upcoming Holiday Show in Georgia later this month, me good friend MaryAnna from Doodle Pad Designs will be attending the show and has an amazing booth cooked up, I will post more information about the show in a few days when we get all the details covered. FREE instructions for Gracie the Owl face Baby Bib!

Yes, time for a freebie!

This is an awesome new design, fresh from our new bibs collection, we have a nice and thick finish to all our pretty bibs.

This is a unique baby bib with lots of personality, on one side, I have a lovely pink fabric with a damask print, and the face of a cute owl, the eyes are made with a dark brown and white dots fabric, the peek and the eye balls in really cute felt. This bib is also backed with an adorable Owls fabric I found here on etsy from an adorable shop called Paper Treats (she's currently out of it but the etsy link should help you find more) and it closes with velcro. Lined of course for better protection!

OK, this is a very easy job! I don't have a pattern you can use for the bib itself, but you really don't need to make the exact sale bib design. If you do, you can cut a rectangle approximately 12" wide by 15" tall, fold it in half and cut the neckline approximately 6" deep by 4" wide.

Things you will need:

1 Fat Quarter of Pink Fabric
1 Fat Quarter of Flannel
5" of Brown with white dots fabric
1 Sheet of Blue Felt
1 Sheet of Orange Felt
Batting
Velcro TM
Fusible Web Paper
Thread
Sewing Machine
Sissors
Iron
Damp Cloth

To make the bib: you will sew both sides of the bib facing each other plus the batting together, turn inside out, I normally iron them when I'm done with that to make them nice and steady.

For the Eyes, you can iron the fusible web paper on the brown and white fabric, after it cools down, use a regular kitchen cup (or you can use a compass) and make 2 circles, these are approximately 4.5". Cut them out, peel out the paper from the back of the fabric and then iron on the circles (you need a damp cloth for this per the instructions of the fusible web paper). With your sewing machine, run a seam around the circles you just glued to the bib, this will prevent them from falling off after a few washes. Take the blue felt, and cut 2 small circles (about 1") and sew them as well.

For the beek, I cut a triangle about 2" tall in the orange felt, then I cut the 2 edges from below off and turn it around, there you have your beek. Sew around it like you did with the eyes.

Cut a small piece of velcro (about 1.5") and sew the parts on the top part of the bib for closure, then you are done!

For the next craft projects, I'll have pictures to explain better, this is more of a crash course on bib face-making lol, but hopefuly you get the idea :) thanks so much for reading and happy crafting!

A family affair...

My Mom taught me how to sew when I was about 10 years old, my first projects included Barbie Doll clothes and Cabbage Patch Kids pillows, we had friends in the show business and their fashion designer would give me scraps of the fabrics they used for their show outfits, so, needless to say, my Barbies and my dolls were always wearing the loudest handmade clothes made by a 10 year old LOL. When I was 13 I made my first skirt, my Mom bought me this navy blue with small white polka dots fabric, made me measure everything twice, made me iron every piece I sewed on, piece by piece, then that darn zipper ... it was such hard work, I bowed not to sew ever again ... hahaha, so much for my good name at 13, because since then, I never really stopped.
Mom has always been there to help in my business, her and I have always worked together with all these cute projects we sell at Natitys and she always provides her 2 cents on the design process. Last year, she and my Dad came up to South Carolina from Florida on the week of her birthday, so I knew I needed to do something special for her, but, what can you give to someone who has it all? ... AND in many colors! lol. I had bought her the new Amy Butler book of course, because it's a tradition to give her a good crafts book as a gift in all occasions now, but I also wanted to make something for her, well, I grabbed some of Amy's fabrics I had home, and made her a handbag (I made my own, simple pattern), the fabrics made it beautiful and the thought was really what mattered. I knew the handbag was going to be a hit for her because she, unlike little dull me, is a handbag addict. (among other accessories lol).
She absolutely loved the handbag, as expected, what I didn't realize was that this one, simple, handbag was going to be the starter of a new chapter in her life! As soon as Mom got back home, she suddenly started taking her fabrics out, and making more and more handbags, the girls at her office loved them, so she started making them for them as well.
Yesterday, Mom called me, she had the day off as there is a "Hurricane" on top of Florida, no power outage, no internet outage but this hurricane doesn't want to leave, so, she decided to finally open her own etsy shop and needed help with graphics and pictures etc. So, of course I gladly helped. Check her shop out at Chic Bazar she's been adding items since yesterday and will continue to do so as long as there are beautiful flowers in this world. Yes, the "Bazar" portion of the name is in Spanish, we are from Puerto Rico and she wanted to include something in there that would say that. She is working with designer fabrics and has a little of everything for every budget and taste. Not only does she have handbags, but she also has accessories like Business Card Holders, Sunglass pockets and more really cool items.
I am very proud of this step she has taken, and I know you will see lots of new developments in Natitys as a result of this in the near future, so please make sure you stop by and take a peek, she would love to hear from you!

Ahh Summer!

Hmm, nothing like a long, relaxing summer vacation, I know a summer vacation combined with the words "kids", "move" and "drive" might not sound relaxing to some, but after the move and the hectic full throttle weeks we had after the move, nice, long vacation with the girls was simply a must. As you may have noticed, we even shut the website down for 3 weeks, no emails were responded, no orders were worked on. To my pleasant surprise, business continued as usual, I have to thank all our wonderful customers for their patronage and trust. This was a real great surprise for sure! Now, we are back to work, fully recovered and full of ideas that you will see in the next few weeks.

This is my little 4 year old, Claire, in Cocoa Beach, I had to take the girls and Daddy had to stay back home to work, as you know he's in the Navy and we have to be extremely selective on times he takes off ... not to mention we also have to wait for him to actually be able to get away from work, so, he had to stay behind, but the 15hr drive from VA with a 6yr old and a 4yr old I'm sure was nothing he was jealous of hehe.
